Why is the Western Port Festival Classic Car Show in High Street/ Marine Parade on Saturday 21st February 2015, rather than on the Foreshore?
The Western Port Festival is arguably the largest public event in the Western Port region. During the weekend, our local communities and our local businesses are on show. Anyone who runs a business in the Hastings CBD/ High Street knows, there are a ridiculous number of local shops empty/ local businesses struggling (for varying reasons).
Moving the Classic Car Show to High Street/ Marine Parade is a conscious effort to bring some of the action from the Foreshore, to the High Street precinct. While the Street Parade lasts 90-120 minutes, most people gravitate down to the foreshore afterwards. Having the Classic Car Show straight after the street parade assures local businesses will have potentially 6-8 hours (360- 480 minutes) of exposure to large crowds. The Western Port Festival should not just be characterised by the Foreshore based activities, but by the potential positive things that could help our local businesses. The “High Street” concept (the brainchild of others) is risky, but could be a good shot in the arm for struggling businesses.
If you are a local business in the Hastings CBD, I urge you to consider having your business doors open on Saturday 21st February during the Classic Car Show. If you know a business in this area, SHARE this post with them. If you are a vehicle owner/ know a vehicle owner, please place an entry in the Classic Car Show. (Entry fees are used for event running costs/ will be donated to a charity *more details to be confirmed*.)
Thank you, please spread the word,
Western Port Festival Classic Car Show Co- Ordinator.
